Kentucky Derby Odds

The odds for the Kentucky are not generally released until after the Post Position Draw, which is a event that determines starting positions based on a random drawing. The drawing occurs the Wednesday before the Kentucky Derby, which will be Wednesday, May 1st, 2019.

The Post Position Draw will be streamed online.

The Derby is probably the most famous, and most special horse race in America. It offers a unique wagering opportunity compared to normal race days. Because it attracts such interest, the wagering pools balloon in size. Almost $150mm was bet on the Derby alone is 2018.

Traditionally the Kentucky Derby features a field 20 horses, and the 2019 edition should be no different. The large field size is another factor that impacts the odds and wagering strategy. Often, there are many horses with longer odds, providing opportunities for bigger payouts. You can see the 2018 odds and results.

While the morning line odds don’t come out until shortly before the race, there are Kentucky Derby Futures available in the months leading up to May 4th.  Typically the futures odds and betting are available during February, March and April.

Be sure to check back close to race day, for a full list of odds!
