Kentucky Derby 2019: Super Saturday Qualifiers

Saturday March 9th, brings an action packed day of racing with major Kentucky Derby implications. Unfortunately the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park has been cancelled as racing there has been put on hold due to unsafe track conditions. There are still three important qualifiers.

The Gotham Stakes
The Gotham Stakes is a one-mile race for three-year-olds that takes place at Aqueduct Racktrack and Casino in New York. The race normally runs in early March, and will be on Saturday March 9th this year. The top four finishers will earn qualifying points toward a spot in the vaunted Kentucky Derby in May.
In the past the winner of the Gotham Stakes has been a shoo-in for a spot in the Kentucky Derby due to the qualifying points on the line with 50 points to 1st place, 20 points to 2nd place, 10 points to 3rd place and 4 points to 4th place. California native Insragrand travels to New York as the presumptive favorite, although this year’s strong field is filled with some excellent speed.
